The Kaliflower Cookbook is a collection of vegetarian recipes published by The Friends of Perfection Commune in Kaliflower (1969-71), an inter-communal newspaper which was distributed to hundreds of communes at its peak. Published with Antinomian Press in conjunction with Ben Kinmont’s exhibition Our commons are free at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, the newspaper includes an introduction by Kinmont, 12 recipes, and images and texts from Kaliflower courtesy of The Digger Archives.
The Friends of Perfection was a commune based on the 19th-century Oneida community's belief in group marriage and common ownership of all property combined with the San Francisco Digger idea of free. Founded by Irving Rosenthal, in addition to operating the Free Print Shop (which printed Kaliflower), The Friends of Perfection was also the commune out of which the Cocketttes and the Angels of Light emerged, two important drag performance groups founded by Hibiscus.
