Thus begins this electrifying 1947 manifesto, by the pointedly-named “Le Surréalisme Revolutionnaire” group—an offshoot of CoBrA—as it assails Andre Berton's cult-of-personality which had dominated surrealism since the early 1930's. S.R. calls for an urgent realignment between surrealism and the revolutionary principles of the Communist Party, because "only a group of surrealist-revolutionaries give concrete expression to the reality of expression" of both art and politics.
