Like the fated summer of 1816, Bryan, Owens, Varichon and Eisenmann walked in Van Gogh’s haunted footsteps near Arles and mirrored his confinement in St. Remy in the foothills of the Alpilles. Albums, paintings, stories and films arrived, and here, a coda by Jacob Eisenmann tells  the story of Van Gogh’s life in a less conventional tone in this concise richly woven  biographical narrative.  Used in lieu of museum didactics at the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh,  this poster lives on as an Apogee illustrated text.  The newspaper L’Echo de Paris, dated February 13 1894, serves as a ground. More pedestrian signifiers float in the margins,  highlighting key words from this anecdotal account of arguably the most famous artist on planet earth.

The life of Vincent Van Gogh was produced in English and French for Laura Owens’ exhibition at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles in 2021.
