Gravenstein
A tribute and potential eulogy to the Gravenstein apple. Grown primarily in Sebastopol, CA, the hometown of Apogee Graphics co-founder Asha Schechter, a disproportionate number of artists and the site of the Luther Burbank experimental farm and the largest carnivorous plant store in the United States. The Gravenstein was the lifeblood of the economy of Sebastopol for many years, giving way in recent decades to speculative vineyards and tourism. What is lost when we lose our most ancient flavors?
